Port Orchard Real Estate

Like many towns and cities on the Kitsap Peninsula WA, Port Orchard WA got its start as a thriving lumber town. It was originally named Sydney and became Kitsap County's first incorporated city in 1890. A few years later, through popular vote, area residents were able to get the county seat moved away from Port Madison on Bainbridge Island, to Sydney, and it remains the seat of county government to this day. The name was changed to Port Orchard WA in 1903 after some very confusing missteps by the US Post Office.

The city is located just south of Bremerton WA across the Sinclair Inlet. A popular 'passenger-only' ferry, known to locals as the "foot ferry", provides regularly scheduled trips between the two cities.

Downtown Port Orchard WA offers a wide variety of shopping opportunities, as well as many fine dining establishments.

For area boating enthusiasts, you'll find that the Port Orchard Marina provides a highly-favored boating destination. Marina Park, with its boardwalk and covered gazebo, offers beach access and is the site of the popular summer outdoor Farmer's Market.
